Mowies is not a dive bar. Mowies is a pool room. It's a restaurant. It's a bar. It's a game room. It's all of the above and big. Very big. There are about 15 or 16 pool tables where they have frequent tournaments and they only take up about half the space. There are multiple video games around the walls. There are Texas Hold 'Em tournaments weekly. There is music several days a week. The kitchen serves pizza, wings, and a large menu. Then there is a 20+ foot long bar with a full complement of hooch and several taps of import beer. What I like about Mowies is the fact that they challenge an Illinois law about drinking. It seems that it is against the law to serve a pitcher to a single patron. I guess they think the sot will drink it all and get falling down drunk. Don't know much about real beer drinkers, do they? If you come in alone you can buy 40 bottles of beer, but no pitcher. Well, Mowie's has solved that problem. They sell a 32 oz mug of draft, in effect a small pitcher. They'll even give you a glass for your imaginary friend sitting next to you. The mug costs $3.50 which makes a normal pitcher $7.00, not bad, especially for Bass Ale or Sam Adams. Then there's always something going on at Mowie's that you can watch or join in. Mowie's is a happening place that looks after the beer drinkers.
